Welcome to my web site. I offer a one shop source for fine antique and classic firearm restoration at truly affordable prices. I have over 45 years experience in building and restoring firearms of all types. With only a few exceptions such as color case hardening and intricate laser welding, for which I call upon the best, I do all the work myself. I am skilled in all aspects of stock work and repair, metal work, engraving and finishing. Be sure to click on the sidebar links for example photos. My customers include museums, gun shops, collectors, professional hunters, competition shooters and those that simply enjoy fine firearms.
As much of my restoration work is on highly prized antique and classic guns I have a different outlook than most. I place great emphasis, and have invested decades developing the required skills, to salvage the existing materials if at all possible rather than simply replace with new. After all, that’s the point of restoration, bring it back to life rather than create a replica.
When a gun comes in with the stock in splintered pieces most would declare it dead and simply make a new stock. I can usually put the puzzle back together stronger than original with all the repairs undetectable. If parts are broken or missing and replacements are unavailable I can make them, including appropriate heat treating. When centuries of rust has degraded the metal and the engraving is a mass of pits I can file out the rust pits (or weld them over), re-cut the engraving and most would say have it good as new. True, but old guns don’t look new. I have mastered the art, and it is all art, of “antiquing” the wood and metal to replicate normal wear and ageing. That is, of course, if you want the gun to appear as it typically would. If you prefer a “new-in-the-box” look that’s fine, too.
One of my most oft asked questions is, “have you worked on this RemChester or that SmittyColt? My reply is, “Hey, they’re all just wood and steel. That I can do.” Of course, with every job I do my homework and offer replication of the same workmanship and wood and metal finishes appropriate for that particular gun.
I can do all this yet keep prices very reasonable because my overhead is low. I have few shop expenses and no employees – you know the saying, if you want it done right do it yourself. My satisfaction comes from the end result. I credit much of my success to one simple thing - before any job, no matter how big or small, goes out the door I ask myself, “are you proud of it?” If not, it doesn’t leave.
